OSCARS 2017: FAVORITE LOOKS

One of my favorite things about award shows is the red carpet. Although award shows aren't all about fashion, it gives stars an opportunity to showcase their own sense of style while shining a light on designers.

Here's some of my favorite looks from the Oscars.

Emma Stone in Givenchy Haute Couture

Viola Davis in Armani

Karlie Kloss in Stella McCartney

Octavia Spencer in Marchesa

Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad Couture

Taraji Henson in Alberta Ferretti - so glamorous!

Hailee Steinfeld in Ralph & Russo

love the back!

FRIDAY FINDS

Did this week fly by or is it just me? Regardless, hurray for the weekend! You may have noticed a wee little change in the name of these posts. I'm changing these Friday posts from "Friday Favorites" to "Friday Finds." I just think it makes more sense with the content.

Any who...here are my finds from the week!

The perfect summer crossbody // The leather and wicker combo has me dreaming of summertime over here. It would go perfectly with this adorable shirtdress

SodaStream // I've been on a MAJOR carbonation kick lately. I recently tried Bai Bubbles (my favorite flavor is blood orange) and I'm obsessed. Even though the SodaStream would just be carbonated water (with no flavor), I think I would still love it because of the bubbles.

The Perfect Tweed Dress styled by Krista // Have you ever seen a tweed dress so perfect? hint: the answer is no ;)

Batiste Dry Shampoo // Y'ALL. I don't know why it has taken me all of my 25 years to try dry shampoo, but it has changed my life. I've only tried two brands, and this one is my favorite as of now.

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Lipstick (in Queen B) // My new favorite lipstick (gloss?) I've been searching for the perfect (semi) neutral matte lip for so long now and I've finally found it! I was a little hesitant at first because it's got the teeniest bit of purple color to it, but it really looks great on and makes me feel trendy (lol) yet put together.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-place Foundation // Another new favorite. I have used bare minerals makeup since high school and recently decided to try out something new. A girl from Ulta suggested this and matched my color (my shade is Desert Beige). She gave me a sample to try for the week and I love it! It's a little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for in this case.

22 Times Meghan Markle Nailed Preppy Style // I imagine that Prince Harry's girlfriend and Princess Kate would get along just fine. :)

Happy Friday, folks!

Stay sunny,

Katie

WARDROBE STAPLES FOR ALL SEASONS

The older I get, the more I find myself gravitating towards pieces I can wear multiple times and mix and match. I am a true believer in quality over quantity, so I usually don't mind spending a little more on an item that I know I'll get multiple wears out of and will be in style season after season.

I love all these pieces because they can worn alone, paired, through each season. They can also be worn in a professional setting as well as everyday looks. Of course, most of these pieces are pretty neutral, but if color is more your style, then go for it! This is simply meant to be used as a guide and good base for your closet.

The good thing about these staples is they're typically sold all the time, so you won't have to worry about purchasing something, accidentally ruining it and not being able to find it again. There are tons of places you can find staples that are budget friendly. Some of my favorites are J. Crew Factory, Loft, Gap, Old Navy, ASOS, Nordstrom...really, so many! And always keep an eye out for sales and discount codes to get the best bang for your buck!

90s INSPIRED: ADIDAS SUPERSTAR SNEAKERS

GET THE LOOK: striped tunic (old but similar linked) // chambray button down // leggings // adidas superstar sneakers

Have you ever had a piece of clothing that makes you feel cool? (even though you're totally not LOL) Well, that's how these shoes make me feel. I went back and forth a million times on whether or not I could pull these off, but then I figured that no one really cares (not in a cynical way) and as long as I love them, that's all that matters!

I paired them with the comfiest tunic and leggings for a super relaxed look. I added the chambray shirt for a 90s vibe, but it's also cute worn over the tunic. This tunic is old from Old Navy but I've linked a similar one above that's really budget friendly! The weather was absolutely perfect when I was taking these photos - so odd for the middle of February, but I'm not complaining. Bring on the warmer days! I can't wait to style these shoes with shorts and dresses in the summer!

Stay sunny,
Katie

FRIDAY FAVORITES

Happy holiday weekend! I don't get Monday off, but I do get a half day today which I am so taking advantage of. My mom and I are grabbing lunch and going to Ulta for an eyebrow wax and test out some new lipsticks!

Here's some favorites I came across this week.

Lilly Pulitzer x Starbucks x Swell Bottle Collab // I couldn't possibly start this post any differently than with this AMAZING collaboration! Are these not the cutest things you've ever seen?! They are only available in select Starbucks locations right now, but will be available at Starbucks.com on February 28th!

UGA approves $63 million Sanford Stadium west end renovation // My alma mater is renovating the west end of the stadium to make a better stadium experience for football recruits. Should be pretty cool!

H&M Relaxed High Jeans // I got these in the mail this week and totally love them! They're the perfect high waisted, distressed boyfriend jean. They run small, so size up 1 or 2 sizes. (I sized up 2 for a more relaxed fit)

20 Things That Only List Lovers Will Understand // I found this article hilarious because it describes me to a T. I love a good list.

Best Dolly Parton Quotes // Nothing better than some Dolly-isms to get you through the week!

Noah Cyrus - Make Me (Cry) ft. Labrinth // I heard this on the radio the other day and legit thought it was Miley, but it's not. It's her little sister! I can't get over how similar their voices sound. The song is pretty catchy!

Favorite verse of the week // "Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created." -Esther 4:14

Tomorrow I'll be sharing some pieces I'm currently loving for spring! I am craving warm weather so badly and am in 100% spring mode. Do y'all have any fun plans for the weekend?

Stay sunny,

Katie

STYLING ADIDAS SUPERSTARS

I normally try to steer clear of super trendy things each season. Mainly because I want to buy things that will last me more than a few months (and still be in style) and I'm a little afraid I can't pull it off. But y'all, I have fallen head over heels for the Adidas sneakers! I started noticing Adidas sneakers when Stan Smiths became huge last season, but I just didn't think I'd wear them enough to get a pair. Then, I started seeing these and really liked them. After looking at them online forever, I finally decided I was going to try a pair but they were sold out everywhere. Confession: I prefer online shopping over shopping in the store. Even though you can try things on and probably find better pieces, I just can't bring myself go that often and I love the convenience of being able to shop from my phone or computer. But, I dragged myself to the mall and found a pair. I went in thinking I wanted the gold stripes but to my surprise, I didn't love them on me. The sales associate brought me silver because it was the only color that was available in my size...and I ended up loving them. After sending a few pictures via text to some friends to confirm that my buying choice was a good decision (lol), I pulled the trigger.

I know it seems a little crazy to be so hesitant to buy a pair of sneakers, but that's just me... :) I've learned that you don't have to give up your personal style for trendy pieces, but by incorporating into your normal wardrobe you can make it your own.

I'll be styling these on here in the next couple of weeks, but I wanted to share some outfit inspirations that have really shown me how many ways they can be worn!

Which look is your favorite?

Stay sunny,

Katie

5 BOOKS TO READ THIS VALENTINE'S DAY

I will be celebrating Valentine's Day early this year due to work scheduling, so I will have the evening of Valentine's all to myself. I can't think of a better way to spend it than curling up on the couch with my dog and a romantic book. I know...I'm a wild one ;)

I thought I'd share some love stories I've enjoyed!

You can't go wrong with this classic love story. This book shows us that first impressions aren't everything.

This is my favorite love story of ALL TIME hands down. It's based off of Gomer and Hosea in the Bible and shows us what it truly means to love someone unconditionally like God does. So much goodness.

I watched the movie of this before reading the book (which I normally don't do). I felt so many emotions throughout the entire movie (and book) and just wanted to scream at the main character so many times. This one will keep you on your toes until the end.

Ok, let's be real. I couldn't post a Valentines reading list without a Nicholas Sparks book...bare with me ;) I read this with two of my college roommates and we totally loved it. It wasn't quite at tragic as some of Sparks previous novels and the dreamy cowboy was a nice change of scenery!

It would just be rude of my to NOT include the greatest, sappiest, romantic (and totally wrong on so many levels....) love story of all time (in my opinion :) ) in this list. I strategically chose to put this one at the end in order to keep you reading through the post. I think this was the first Nicholas Sparks novel I ever read (in like 7th grade??) and of course, I was hooked. Live long Noah and Allie.
